History

Inovata has a long and interesting background. Inovata was founded and financed 1990 and developed a lot of products for separation of proteins based on agarose.
Working with agarose, a polysaccharide from agar agar, is a delicate problem. Uncross-linked agar is very soft and have to be stabilized. All Inovata size exclusion products are based on a patent (patent No:----) giving rigid beads.
Inovata also patented a method for activation of agarose media, in fact an intermediate of the cross-linking procedure. This patent (patent No:...) is the base of all Inovata products (see under Chemistry).
However this patent was a challenge for GE Healthcare and they appealed against the patent and Inovata did not have the muscles to defend it.
Inovata also used agar as such to develop large beads for use in removal of heavy metals in water (see under collaborators).
